Leaving Holbrook, AZ on the morning of June 23, 2022, we were so excited to arrive at Grand Canyon National Park! We had wanted to stay within the park at the RV campground, but they were completely booked when we made reservations in February. They recommend making your reservations a year in advance! We found a beautiful and secluded campground about 10 miles outside of the park, Ten X Campground. It was quiet and felt like we were out in the wilderness, we even saw elk on the property! The only downside for this campground was that there was no electric. We used our generator when needed throughout the day. We stayed 2 nights and spent the day on the 24th in the park.

We arrived in the park and I think Jack was expecting to see the canyon right away. He was walking ahead of us as we entered the main Visitor’s Center area at the South Rim, and kind of craning his neck as he looked around. We approached Mather Point and could finally see the Grand Canyon spreading out before us. “Oh…” was all Jack could say for a minute or two!

If you have ever been to the Grand Canyon, you know how impossible it is to describe in words and even pictures – they just don’t do it justice! Dave and I have been to the park before and it was just as awesome to see it this time around. After spending some time at Mather Point, we made our way along the rim trail to the Yavapai Geologic Museum. From there we followed the Trail of Time until we reached an off-shoot for the Park Headquarters and Market Plaza. Here we stopped for lunch and a little shopping before catching the shuttle back to the Visitor’s Center.

The weather started to turn a bit, a thunderstorm was rolling in, so we reluctantly headed back to the campground. We could have happily spent a week here, and someday we would still love to hike down into the canyon. This was probably our favorite stop of the trip.
