G’day, mate! This two part docu-drama mini-series follows the Australian rock band INXS from their early pub days to their massive sold out stadium concerts and all the craziness in between.
At about 3 hours in total length, it was very expansive, but it never felt long or like it was doing unnecessary things. As it went on, the momentum kept building as the band became more popular, which brought more than a few problems with it. The actors they found to play the band members really shined in their roles. Luke Arnold as Michael Hutchence and Andrew Ryan as Andrew Farriss were particular stand-outs, but they were all great in their own ways.
My only real gripe is that they kind of sensationalized everything to the point where some parts were overly dramatic that probably didn’t need to be. Ultimately, you can tell this was a labor of love and they did justice to the band’s memory, legacy, and incredible music.
If you like INXS at all or you ever want to know more about the band’s story, you should check this out. They overcame the odds and became huge, but in the end Michael gave into his demons and you best bring your tissue box.
