Last week I reviewed my Lions preseason picks. In my week 11 recap I said “Just for fun Ill stick with the Lions in what will be (bonus pick) the first Giants loss of an 8 game losing streak to end the 2022 season.” This week I would like to elaborate on that. Just to be clear, the Giants are coming off of a win against the Houston Texans and will loss this week to the Lions. This loss will be the first of eight consecutive losses for the Giants to round out the 2022 season.
Week 11: Detroit Lions
Detroit is hot right now. And by that I mean that they are the midseason litmus test to determine if a team is actually bad. Three picks on Aaron Rodgers: the Packers are bad. First road win for Campbell: the Bears are bad. Just like the Vikings win over the Bills proves that they are good, the Giants falling to the Lions at home will prove that they are not.
Week 12: Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys love playing on Thanksgiving. Playing just about every year in the modern era they are 31-22-1. That is the best percentage of any team with more than 10 turkey day games. Combine that with home field advantage and a Dallas team that knows they should be headed to the playoffs and the G-men lose another one. Also, insert a clever comment about Tony Romo taking Phil Simms commentator job. I couldnt come up with one so youre going to have to do it.
Week 13 & 15: Washington Commanders
The Commanders are like the Lions in that they are going to spoil everything for the good teams this season. The division rivalry should be enough but the fact that Washington might be playing for that 7th wildcard spot could be enough to win both match ups.
Week 14 & 18: Philadelphia Eagles
This right here is how the Giants have looked good. They dont play their best division rival until the last third of the season. The Eagles, despite Minnesotas best efforts, are still my favorite for the NFC at this point. These games are going to have an affect on who gets a playoff bye and I think the Eagles are up to the challenge.
Week 16: Minnesota Vikings
This should be an interesting matchup. The Giants have not won a single game by more than one score. The Vikings have only won one game by more than one score and that was Week 1 when they shut down the Packers. Maybe the game ends in a tie?
Week 17: Indianapolis Colts
The Colts and the Lions are the only teams left on the Giants schedule who have a negative score on our power rankings. And week 16 could be the weeks the Giants prove me wrong. But, the Colts could be looking to slide into the wildcard round at 8-8-1 and a road win on New Years Day might just be the difference.
So, there you have it. Five games against teams in the best division in the league, a game against the best team in the league, and two upsets to drive home the point that the New York Football Giants are not all that great this year. The Giants lose 8 straight to end the season 7-10 after starting 7-2.
