Last week I picked the Chargers over the Chiefs. And, they almost did it. At the end of regulation the game was tied. But, the Chargers made a fatal error; they let Mahomes get the ball in overtime. Still, it was a close game and Herbert showed some serious grit playing injured for most of the 4th quarter.
As for my other pick, THE LIONS WON! And, with the exception of the 3rd quarter, they did it convincingly. I know its just one game, and I know that we ride this emotional rollercoaster every time the Lions show they can win, but it just feels different this time. It seems like the team believes in the coaching staff, especially Campbell. Not only that, but the fans showed up. And that is something that has been missing in Detroit for, gosh, decades it feels like. Anyway, onto this weeks picks.
Lions @ Vikings
Well, the Lions played great last week. But, that was at home, and against a Commanders team that doesnt have it together. This week they have to go to Minnesota and take on a division rival. Minnesota shut down the Packers in week 1. But, they couldnt do anything against the Eagles. In fact, the Lions did way better against the Eagles than the Vikings did. What I would like to see is the Lions continuing to run the ball. And, I want the defense to get all up in Cousins business. If they can do that, I think they win. Unfortunately, all the Vikings have to do to win is make Goff go down field. For whatever reason, he is very inconsistent when he does. If Detroit cant fixt that, ultimately it will be the downfall of the Lions. Im going to stick with my original pick and say the Vikings win this one.
Packers @ Buccaneers
I really want the Packers to lose. Always. For as long as Aaron Rodgers is on the team. Old Man Brady isnt having his best season ever but the Bucs are 2-0 with wins against teams that won both of their other games. So, technically they are at the top of our power rankings. (Power Rankings will return after week 3 when we have some usable data.) Where as the Packers are sitting right in the middle. Im going to go with the Bucs.
49ers @ Broncos
Jimmy G is back in as the 49ers QB. Is that better for them? Perhaps. He has more experience. And, he doesnt have a broken ankle, so.. But seriously, while he may not be a top tear QB the team wins when hes under center. In fact, Garoppolo is 33-14 as a starter. He has only started 2 full seasons, 2019 and 2021. In 2019 they lost in the Super Bowl and 2021 they upset everyone in the playoffs only to lose to the Super Bowl champ Rams in the Conference Championship round. Is he the future for the 49ers? Who knows. But, as my wife would say, hes.. hes.. hes beautiful.
Russel Wilson on the other hand is top tear. He has taken Seattle to the playoffs 8 of his 10 seasons. I dont know what happened in Seattle. But hes in Denver, where the coach doesnt know what to do with him. 49ers win this one at Mile High.
