Were going to mix things up a little bit this week. Im going to take a close look at the numbers in the power rankings. Paradroid will still be doing his analysis later in the week.
With a big win against the Cowboys the Eagles maintain the #1 spot in the power rankings. The Ravens move into the top tier this week with another total domination win over the Seahawks. The Chiefs also move up after a big win in Frankfort over the Dolphins.
The Browns rocket up 5 spots to #6 and jump to A tier with a murdering of the lowest ranked Cardinals. The Jaguars, and Lions sit tight during their bye week. Miami only moves down one spot and hangs on to A tier after the close loss to the Chiefs. The 49ers sneak back up to A tier despite having the week off. This is a result of the curve moving in their favor as several of last weeks B tier teams lost this week.
Last week there was definitely an upper B tier and a lower B tier. This week the gap has closed significantly due to Dallas, Buffalo (down 3) and Seattle (down 3) all suffering tough losses this week. The Steelers move up four spots to # 10 while the Bengals win over the Bills boosted them up a spot. The Chargers and Texans manage to sneak up a tier.
The Jets plummeted 5 spots to 17th and landed in C tier after an embarrassing loss to the Chargers. The Saints, easily the worst team with a winning record, move up a spot after barely beating the Bears. The Colts had a great week moving up four spots, despite only beating the Panthers. Another case of moving up a little while a bunch of teams moved way down. Like the Bucs who moved down three spots and the Titans who dropped a spot but just managed to hang on to C tier.
The Falcons fell down to D Tier despite staying in 22nd place. There was a little bit of shuffling around but really these teams are not good. They might be able to beat each other but there isnt much more than that. (Denver, the win over KC was a fluke. You might get six wins this season. I think four is more likely though.)
I dropped a bunch of teams down to F tier this week. The Cardinals are definitely the worst. But these five teams combined for 53 points this week. Their fans should be embarrassed. Its just not good. But, if the Cardinals go scoreless again next week against the Falcons, Ill make a special “F-” tier just for them.
Let us know what you think of the rankings. Are the 49ers too high? Should the Bengals be higher? Do you want even more numbery stuff and explanations on how these rankings are calculated. Put your thoughts in the comments!
