This is the second installment of the Convocations series. As the name implies, this one is a bit more sad than the previous one, though not a lot sadder. Sometimes it is eerie, like in the track number VI.
Mostly, it is more repetitive and less fulfilling than the Meditations volume. I’ve listened to it 3 full times now and only a couple tracks are jumping out at me. I think that is to be expected, though, as 5 volumes of music aren’t going to all be amazing.
Track X is pretty cool in how it has a disjointed electric piano melody, at times feeling a bit like Radiohead’s Pyramid Song.
I hope this is like a five volume roller coaster where some parts go big and others dip down. Sometimes you need a calm before a storm, or in this case, you need to lament a little before you can have some Revelations.
Tune in next week for more instrumental Sufjan explorations.
