This is the first volume of a five volume series called Convocations. Each album will be released weekly starting today. Is it Christmas or something?
This is in the same style as the Aporia album he released last year. It’s very ambient and moody. At times, it reminds me of Hans Zimmer film scores or Brian Eno. It has a calming effect, almost hypnotic at times.
I’m sure there are some people that don’t like Sufjan’s instrumental music, and I can understand that. He does have a very nice voice and it is a shame when he isn’t using it regularly. I like everything he does and when Aporia came out, I listened to it over and over. I couldn’t stop thinking how I’d really like more of that kind of music. So, here it is. Five whole albums worth starting with this one.
I think of it as a soundtrack to life or a movie that has yet to be made. Maybe it is a soundtrack to my head movies. Whatever the case may be, it is perfect background music if you want to work on coding a video game or writing a blog post.
My only complaint is that I have to wait until next Friday to hear the next part, but you know what? A little patience isn’t a bad thing. That gives me 7 days to savor this meal before having the next course. Sometimes binging is bad for you.
