John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)

He thought it would be easy to come out of retirement for a brief period to exact his revenge. Boy, was he wrong.

In order for John Wick to retire in the first place, he had to swear a blood oath.

Seems that the blood oath requires John Wick to do one last job for Santino D’Antonio, a mobster who wants his sister dead so he can take over in her place in the international crime syndicate “high council”.

I didn’t enjoy this sequel as much as the original. It felt bloated and didn’t have nearly the adrenaline rush. A big part of the problem was that it tried to have too many intricate story elements about all the different factions trying to gain more power in the criminal underworld. I’m getting bored just writing about it!

At a runtime of 2 hours and 2 minutes, there was about 20 minutes too much that should have been shaved off. This isn’t some high art, it’s an action movie with a pile of bodies. Do the thing and be done.
