When animals attack! This is a fun sub-genre of horror, where they take a type of animal and make it bigger, scarier, and more dangerous than than animal would be in real life. Jaws, Cujo, Anaconda, and Piranha are a few examples. It’s often very effective as there tends to be natural fears of these animals already.

Razorback is an Australian movie about a massive wild boar that likes to eat people. Jake is a hunter who loses his grandson to the boar and wants revenge. Carl is searching for his wife, who went missing (also eaten by the boar).

This is by no means a masterpiece of a movie, but what made it a little bit more enjoyable was the cinematography and music. The visuals showed some of the most beautiful Australian outback and the lighting was perfect for the atmosphere each scene needed.

The musical score was done by a bloke named Iva Davies from the Australian rock, new wave, synth pop band Icehouse. This is an important detail, because the music doesn’t try to be a traditional orchestral score.

The giant boar itself was animatronic, which was goofy-looking when you actually saw it. Luckily, the filmmakers were smart enough to keep it hidden for most of the movie, which had the added bonus of building suspense.
