I See You (2019)

This is another one where I had no idea what to expect. For the first half of the movie, I’m thinking it’s some supernatural entity messing with a family. Boy, was I wrong.

Helen Hunt plays Jackie Harper who recently cheated on her husband, Greg, a police detective. This has caused quite a bit of tension and animosity, especially with their teenage son, Connor. Parallel to the family events, there has been a child abduction in their town that resurfaces a kidnapping case from the past, putting Greg on the hook to find a missing boy and stop further abductions.

Strange stuff starts happening in the Harper family’s home like things going missing and TVs turning on randomly. The camera work and music remind you that you should be scared of something, but what?

About halfway through, the movie pivots with a perspective change and becomes more of a thrilling mystery. As more becomes revealed, you start to realize that not everything is what it seems.

The viewer definitely benefits from not knowing much about the movie and when it’s over, you want to go back and revisit certain parts after the twists have been exposed.

I liked the intricately woven plot. It was refreshing how the movie started out one way, shifted to an opposite direction, and still managed to keep me invested in the mystery and characters. It was nice to see Helen Hunt in something again, but I feel like her talents were a bit wasted.

Not only was it an enjoyable viewing experience, I fully intend to watch a second time in the near future.
