Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes (1989)

This fourth installment of the barely popular Amityville Horror franchise was a made-for-TV movie. It centers on a demonic possessed lamp originally from the Amityville house that causes haunting shenanigans for a family that just moved in with the Golden Girls. This probably should have been a comedy.

For a made-for-TV movie, it’s not too bad. It’s not too good either. How hard is it to get rid of the lamp once you find out it’s the source of the ultimate evil? Bring it to Goodwill like a normal person.

More importantly, I loved that the evil spirit is able to manipulate things like light switches and telephones. The evil “call blocking” feature meant that the priest could never call the family to warn them about the lamp. Nor was he successful with sending them a telegram. At that point, just drive over there, dude.

The best part was the kid, Brian, and his fluffy almost-mullet. The late 80s were a great time to be alive.
