This is probably the 4th or 5th time I’ve seen this movie and I still don’t know what the hell is going on. It’s just such a writing mess and really seems like they were just going for upping the gross out factor. They succeeded, but that’s not enough for a good horror movie. You need to also have a coherent story with stakes that keep the viewer invested.

The Cenobite characters are probably the best part. The makeup and spookiness when they show up is great for pretending that the gate to hell has opened up. My favorite one is Butterball, because he seems to understand that even minions from a hell dimension must remain stylish with accessories like sunglasses. That and I bet hell IS pretty bright.
