Jeepers Creepers 3 (2017)

The first Jeepers Creepers is somewhat of a classic. The second one is not as good, but still managed to have some fun moments. This third installment feels a bit like a made-for-SyFy movie. Some parts were enjoyable, but it never managed to establish cohesiveness. At times, it flirted with the possibility of revealing more of the Creeper mythos, but then left the audience hanging.

I’ve always liked the mystique of the Creeper, so maybe it’s best they didn’t give away too much. However, it was a mistake to push the villainous character toward the campy Freddy Krueger territory. Even worse is how his little crappy rusted out Creepermobile truck is like this horrific Batmobile with a mind of its own. These things start to water down what was already a thin on frights franchise and just don’t make sense unless they are grounded in some sort of reality.

Acting talent is pretty much flatlined except for Meg Foster and Stan Shaw. Gore is not bad, but weakened by cheap special effects.

Hopefully, this is the last Jeepers Creepers, because it can only get worse from here.
