NFL Power Rankings – Week 16

A lot of movement this week, especially in the middle of the pack. Lets see where everyone landed after a few big upsets and some total blow outs. Tier lists made at tiermaker.com.

The Ravens and 49ers are looking unstoppable. And thats a good place to be in mid December. Baltimore has won eight of their last nine and have not lost a single game by more than one score all season. San Francisco managed to be the only team this season to put six wins in a row and is absolutely destroying everyone they come across, winning every game since October by at least two scores. If you were to ask me what the Super Bowl is going to look like I would pick these two. And we are in luck because the NFL is giving us this matchup as a Christmas present this Monday night. I have the Ravens just inching out the 49ers for #1 because their win this week was more impressive.

I really didnt know what to do here. The Eagles and Cowboys both lost so they fell way behind the S tier Teams, but still ahead of the A tier. The Lions, Dolphins, Browns, and Chiefs all beat teams that, as A tier teams, they should beat. The Jaguars lost but it was to the Ravens, the best team in the league, so cant penalize them too much for that. And the Bengals and Bills both had huge wins. So, as a result, we have a three tier A tier. The Eagles moved up to 3rd because their loss wasnt as bad as the Cowboys. The Lions moved up four to 5th place because they had the best win, taking out the Broncos. The Bengals and Bills held tight at 10th and 11th but they got bumped up from B tier.

Boy, oh boy, (I dont know why I keep starting B tier that way but here we are) B tier sure thinned out this week. Only three of the eight teams who were in B tier last week remain. The Colts win over the Steelers rocketed them up five spots to 12th and the top of B tier. In fact, everyone in B tier right now won this week. The Seahawks moved up four to 15th and the Bucs moved up three to 16th. Both jumping up from C tier.

I would like to take a moment to formally apologize to the people of Pittsburgh and Steelers fans around the world. I cant help but feel that I cursed them by picking them to win the AFC North a few weeks ago. Heading into week 13 they were in 10th place and in A tier with games against the Cardinals, and Patriots, and Colts on the horizon. And now here they are, down four more spots in 18th place and in C tier. The Vikings took the biggest hit this week, falling seven spots to 19th. This isnt exactly an accurate representation of their week. Losing to the Bengals by 3 isnt the worst day. They just got passed by a lot of teams who were on their way up. The Broncos also dropped to C tier with their loss to the Lions. Again, losing to an A tier team on the road isnt so bad but getting blown out the way they did cost them some points. And speaking of points; the Raiders moved up four spots and up to C tier with their blow out of the Chargers this week.

Nine of the bottom ten teams lost this week. Some took it harder than others. The Chargers dropped four spots to 25th and finally fired their coach, Brandon Staley, and GM, Tom Telesco. Im going to make my official wild guess pick that the Lions Offensive Coordinator, Ben Johnson, takes the head coaching job in San Diego next season. The Falcons also got embarrassed by losing to the Panthers this week. This brought them down three spots to 26th and D tier.

While the Panthers are still significantly behind the rest of the pack they did get a win so now they are just the worst team in the league. No more special F- tier for them to wallow in.

So, what do you think? Should the Bills and Bengals be higher? Is it time for the Eagles to panic? Can anyone beat the 49ers or Ravens? Which one of them do you think wins on Christmas?
