Good old Samuel L. Jackson makes this tongue-in-cheek horror comedy worth watching. Aside from Sam L., the best thing going for this movie is that it has a simple plot and moves fast enough to keep you from asking any questions about the humongous plot holes.
Sean (Nathan Phillips) is an Xtreme sports guy who witnesses a ruthless mobster kill a lawyer in Hawaii and escapes into FBI custody. Sam L. is the FBI agent assigned to protect Sean and get him back to L.A. to testify against the mobster. Despite efforts to elude the mobster, by taking a red eye flight, the mobster manages to have his henchmen load a crapload of snakes into the plane’s cargo hold and then sprays Hawaiian leis with some pheromone before they are distributed to the passengers. Wait, don’t they give you the leis when you ARRIVE in Hawaii, not when you are leaving? Whatever. Then mid-flight, the boxes of snakes open up and wreak havoc.
There are plenty of CGI snakes doing all sorts of kills and mayhem on the plane. The snake biting the penis of a guy peeing in the tiny plane bathroom was inventively comedic.
Plot holes aside, it’s still a pretty fun horror/suspense/comedy which doesn’t try to take itself too seriously. It still brings me joy when Samuel L. Jackson says the iconic: “I’ve had it with these muthaf***in’ snakes on this muthaf***in’ plane!” before depressurizing the cockpit so the snakes get sucked out. Even better is the edited for TV version: “I’ve had it with these monkey-fightin’ snakes on this Monday-to-Friday plane!”
There is fun to be had here, just leave your brain in the popcorn bucket.
