Say his name five times and try not to die! This 2021 remake was co-written by Jordan Peele (director of Get Out, Us, Nope) and tries to breathe some fresh life into a 2nd tier horror icon character: The Candyman.

I will say that there was a lot to like about the tone and style of how it created the tension. The story was a tad on the boring side at times, but it was interesting how it juxtaposed the supernatural elements with current events.

I never really felt much connection to the characters. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was good as the artist Anthony on a downward spiral involving his obsession with Candyman.

What I’m trying to say is that even though Jordan Peele did not direct this movie, I have high expectations for things he’s involved in and this one fell a little bit short of those expectations.
