It’s tough being a 30-year-old dude teenager who knows your next door neighbor is a vampire and yet no one will believe you. So, you take your dumbass to the washed up vampire hunter actor turned TV personality to ask for help. What could go wrong?
For a mid-80s horror classic, the movie has a great concept, but falls short on some of the execution bits. The “kid” feels too old to be a 17-year-old high schooler. Even worse is his girlfriend who is seduced by the vampire neighbor. This is supposed to be a high school student getting diddled by a 1000-year-old vampire? Eww.
There is just something about it that is not quite right. It lacks the charm of other mid-80s horror movies and the pacing starts out OK, but then falls apart at the halfway point. The plot points are not really exciting enough and the cast is just kind of B-grade forgettable. If the premise sounds intriguing, the 2011 remake with Anton Yelchin and Colin Farrell is a bit more enjoyable.
