Does it end, though? Does it really? They keep making these movies and I don’t think they know what the word actually means. It never ends!
I don’t know if it was because Halloween Kills was kind of awful or I was caught completely off guard, but this movie really amazed me. I am not going to say it was the best thing ever, because it wasn’t. However, it was fairly mesmerizing with how it took the Halloween series into newish territory that gave it more depth and an interesting flavor than most of the other films in this series.
While the movie is called Halloween Ends, it feels more like new beginnings, since it’s actually about this new kid named Corey and his rise to evil or rather fall from grace. After being blamed for a horrific accident in the opening scene, it’s pretty clear that Corey is never going to recover from this socially. To me, it was an interesting development of a tortured mind, but I can imagine the die hard Michael Myers fanboys were probably not digging it. You can’t really please those people, though.
The biggest issue I had is that it didn’t go all-in on trying to go this new direction. It was a half-assed half measure where they did this abrupt about face for the third act to appease those pesky fanboys. So, it definitely feels like a cop out after building toward something else. It’s like running a marathon, but then shitting your pants right before the finish line. You could have just waited, bro, but no. That’s how this movie feels. I won, but I still have poop trickling down my leg.
