Sydney Sweeney plays Cecilia, an American nun who goes to work at a convent in Italy. While getting settled as the outsider who can’t be bothered to learn even basic Italian, she abruptly becomes pregnant without conception. Turns out a geneticist priest uses DNA material from some old metal spike that they think was used in Jesus’ crucifixion. I didn’t think this movie would be about Jesus cloning, but here we are.
As things become more dire, the trapped Cecilia finds her homicidal dark side as she tries to escape from her captors. Sometimes you just have to murder your way out of the cult.
At no point did I think that the premise was working to achieve its storytelling and horror goals. Even Sydney Sweeney seemed rather bored with the subject material and her flat as a pancake character. There were more than a few scenes with Sydney prancing around in waterlogged see-thru nun garments. It’s all about the boobs!
The movie was not scary and the gore was pretty much bludgeoning with heavy or sharp objects. I kept waiting for something big to happen or anything to really keep me invested. Even the end “birthing scene” was like a deuce drop after a black pot of coffee. WITHOUT the satisfaction.
