Locked (2025)

Bill Skarsgard plays Eddie, an unlucky mess of a dude, who resorts to petty theft when he owes money to a car mechanic who fixed his van. He goes around checking car doors for things to steal and finds a nice car in a parking lot. When he gets in to loot the SUV, the doors lock and the owner calls him to tell him he’s been trapped. What ensues is a game of wits and torture as Eddie must try to figure out how to get out of the car or die.

It’s kind of a survival thriller where you have the disembodied voice of Anthony Hopkins as the villain and poor Eddie has to drink his own pee. You sympathize with the kid, but at the same time, he got himself into the mess.

I do enjoy a good “confined” story where the whole thing takes place in mostly one location: the Dolus car. At times, it kinda feels like one big advert for the Dolus, except it’s not a real car.

While I mainly wanted to watch this for the cast, I was surprised at how simple and effective it managed to be. I think it was trying to make some sort of statement about class warfare and the state of society with regard to poverty and violence. I don’t know. It reminded me of some of Joel Schumacher’s earlier films like Phone Booth or Falling Down that kept the thrill up and the plot tight.
