Kurt Russell’s son, Wyatt, plays a retired baseball player due to health problems. He and his family buy a house with a pool to make his health problems better, except for it is a haunted pool and that brings a lot of other problems.
It really felt like I’d seen most of this movie before as other movies like The Amityville Horror, where the dad gets possessed and turns a tad homicidal. Or Poltergeist where a family deals with evil spirits trapped in an inanimate object. In a way, this could almost be a sequel to Poltergeist, but without much thought or care put into the story line.
The scares were fairly basic or rather, I expected them because they were obvious setups. Some of the looks of the pool ghosts were pretty creepy, but I never felt all that uneasy. It was mostly jump scares, which is rather lazy these days.
Wyatt Russell’s performance is the standout, and everyone else if varying degrees of bare minimum.
All-in-all, I had higher hopes for something less than mediocre and it ended up being ultramega barely OK.
