Directed by Steven Soderbergh, comes this uniquely gimmicky film about a family that moves into a house with a ghost. This is portrayed using a first-person wide angle camera view that moves around the house following characters and being a nosey nelly.
When the ghost manifests in the physical realm to messy up one of the teenager’s rooms, the frightened family calls in a friend of a friend who can feel a presence if one exists. She, of course, moves the narrative forward to explain that this ghost is there to help and needs to do something before it can pass on to the other side.
To avoid spoilers, I will not go into the plot details of what is really going on, but I will say it was an interesting twist. Though, I will say that there wasn’t much in the way of scares or fear-induced situations.
Lucy Liu played the mother and nailed the stuck-up a-hole persona with ease. The real standout was Chris Sullivan as the meek father of the teenage kids, Tyler and Chloe. He has a voice to remember and he was convincing as the father character who was trying his best to hold things together.
