After ten of these movies, the question must be asked: Can it do anything new?
Answer: Not really.
The movie tells the story between Saw and Saw II, filling in some of the background of the Jigsaw/John Kramer (Tobin Bell) and Amanda (Shawnee Smith) characters. John Kramer gets scammed by some medical scammers in Mexico who fake a cancer treatment and leave after being paid. John goes into full Jigsaw mode with help from Amanda to play some games with the people who scammed him.
Once the torture starts, there is no disputing it is a Saw movie. The irritating part is how graphic it is with no real purpose. The games themselves could be interesting puzzles for the characters to overcome, but no, it is just different ways to torture people. That and the games often seem unwinnable, so what’s the point? It’s just John Kramer exacting his revenge. I’ve already seen this nine times before.
