This is one of those movies that was worth every minute of screentime, yet you don’t ever really need to see it again. It’s a psychological horror thriller that gets progressively uncomfortable as you watch it.
While on vacation in Italy, an American couple (Scoot McNairy and Mackenzie Davis) and their daughter meet a friendly British couple (James McAvoy and Aisling Franciosi) and their son. Upon returning to their home in London, the American couple are invited to the British couple’s farm in the middle of nowhere.
Things start off pleasant, but the British couple start to make the American family feel like something is not quite right. The truth is diabolical to say the least.
The story unfolds at an even pace that sets up a tense rollercoaster of uneasiness, followed by brief moments of calm. By the third act, it all comes to a head and the viewer is on edge rooting for the American family to survive.
James McAvoy is perfect as the sadistic antagonist who keeps his true motives hidden for most of the movie.
