Camilla Belle plays Jill the babysitter in this remake of the 1979 classic of the same name. She’s just taking care of some sleeping kids for some rich people at their fancy pants remote mansion when calls from a strange guy start coming in. At first, she just brushes it off, but as the calls continue, the stranger appears to know things as if he’s watching her, which prompts her to call the cops. The police initially shrug it off as a prank, but her continued calls for help force them to get involved.
The tension building is superb and the menacing stranger (voiced by Lance Henriksen) is not revealed until the third act. I like the simplicity of the story and Camilla Belle sufficiently portrays the distressed babysitter without being completely helpless. My only real gripe was that the ending didn’t really seem to fit. It was OK, but I think doing something more open-ended might have served the premise a bit better.
