Two brothers become entangled in a frightening demonic take over they can’t possibly understand. The film takes place in Argentina in both rural and urban locations. It’s like The Exorcist, Evil Dead, and Night of the Living Dead rolled into one, but in very subtle ways.
There is an ongoing sense of dread and danger. At times, you let your guard down, and that’s when they get you. Expect the unexpected and be prepared for the worst.
Another thing it does well is keeping the menace hidden. Things that are possessed are not always obvious, but it is more sinister in how natural it flows. You don’t have any goofy stuff like Evil Dead 2, because this is not that kind of movie.
While the ending was rather heartbreaking, I enjoyed the experience from start to finish. This movie wins the award for “Most Effective Use of Pets and Children” and that is not an easy accomplishment to achieve.
