Creep (2004)

On the way home from a party, Kate (Franka Potente) becomes trapped in an underground subway station and hunted by an unseen creature as she tries to find a way out. Along the way, she attempts to find help from a homeless couple and a night guard.

They did a really good job of keeping the creature as an unseen menace for the first half of the movie. Once you find out what it is, though, it kind of loses its tension. Well, I don’t know that you actually do find out what it is, but it becomes less obscured and that takes away a lot of the fright factor.

Not only that, but it moves from the subtleties of hidden terror to the in-your-face torture porn stuff that just makes you cringe waiting for it to end.

While it was not particularly terrible in any way, it was also minimally engaging and barely enjoyable. The acting was fine and the gore was OK, it’s just the story or lack thereof was the biggest missing piece. There needs to be more than just a drunken party girl getting stuck in a subway and being hunted by a monster.
