Freaky (2020)

It’s a horror comedy twist on the body swapping classic Freaky Friday. Vince Vaughn plays a serial killer called the Blissfield Butcher who goes on a killing spree and accidentally changes bodies with a high school girl named Millie (Kathryn Newton) after stabbing her with a mystical dagger.

The killer resumes killing as the teen girl, making it easier to hide from detectives. Millie, however, has a tough time dealing with being in the body of a late-40s man who is wanted for murder.

The acting for both leads was probably the best part as both had to assume two different character identities at specific times in the movie. In particular, Vince nailed both the sinister as the killer and the hilarious as the girl. One scene stood out where Millie/Vince is trying to get romantic with her crush in the backseat of a car in the most awkward way possible.

The rest of the movie was somewhat forgettable with “clever” kills that have all been done before. The final wrap up was expected and rather predictable. I guess the least predictable part was that I was expecting a twist ending or some glimmer of a possible sequel, but there was nothing like that.
