NFL Power Rankings Week 14

There was a whole lot of moving this week. Lets take a look at where everyone is sitting going into week 14.

Look at San Francisco. They went to Lincoln Financial Field and put the smack down on the nearly invincible Eagles. This win bumps them up three spots to #1 and knocked the Eagles out of S+ tier and into 2nd place.

The Chiefs and Jaguars had tough losses to the Packers and Bengals this week. This knocked them down a tier and a few spots in the rankings to 5th and 8th. Meanwhile the Lions and Cowboys moved up two spots to 6th and 4th by beating two teams they should be able to beat. Though, neither of their defenses looked good. The Dolphins held tight at #7.

Boy oh boy, B tier is filling up. I almost made a B+ tier for the top three teams because theyre definitely better than the rest of the group but not quite A tier. The Browns and Steelers drop to B tier with their losses this week and the Rams #12, Bengals #14, and Packers #15 all move up at least four places and hop up out of C tier. With all this moving around the Bills fell 5 spots to #16 while on their bye week.

Seattle dropped three spots to #18 and down to C tier for the first time this season. The Broncos took a huge hit this week, falling six spots to #19 and dropping back down to C tier. The Chargers, Buccaneers, and Falcons only moved up one spot between the three of them (Falcons up to 22) but with their collective mediocre wins over the Patriots, Panthers, and Jets, they all managed to jump up to C tier.

D tier lines up with the beginning of the bottom ten teams this week. And of these ten teams, only one won. Technically, most of them are still alive in the playoff hunt, none of them will make it. (Maybe New Orleans but thats a whole other thing that I might look into next week.)

Theres just not a lot to say about these teams at this point in the season. Sure, the Cardinals got out of F- tier, and they did it against all odds, but thats not something to get excited about. Not being worse than the worst teams just makes you one of the worst teams.

The Panthers are officially eliminated from playoff contention. Its sad that it took 11 losses but here we are.

Well, there you have em. Should the Packers and Rams be higher? Are the Steelers and Browns done for? Let me know in the comments what you think. Also, I am working on a good way to share the details of the math behind the power rankings. Hopefully next week…
