Before he directed Halloween, John Carpenter made this little made-for-TV movie about a woman (Lauren Hutton) being stalked by a crazy guy. It was based on a true story as most made-for-TV movies were in the 1970s.
In addition to directing, John Carpenter also wrote it. There is no denying his talent even in his early years. What should have been a piece of utter crap with no budget was actually a well done and mostly thrilling story. You can also see the style and detail that was the dry run before the Halloween masterpiece. There were POV shots that kept you on edge and the stalker/killer was kept hidden until the end.
What’s missing is the John Carpenter synth soundtrack that made his other films so iconic. If it had that, it would have been damn near perfect.
